


Skid Steer (Bobcat) Training
This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to operate Skid Steer Loaders (Bobcats) safely and in compliance with manufacturers’ instructions and health and safety requirements.
Training includes pre-use checks, safe manoeuvring, load handling, and working in confined or uneven areas. Attention is given to hazard awareness, stability, segregation of pedestrians and vehicles, and clear site communication.
Learners will also understand the importance of daily checks, maintenance, and defect reporting. On completion, participants will be able to operate skid steers confidently while reducing risks to people, equipment, and property.
COURSE CONTENT
- Overview of relevant legislation and health & safety responsibilities for skid steer operators.
- Principles, functions, and capabilities of skid steers, including their versatility on site.
- Hazard awareness – tip-over risks, blind spots, confined space operation, and ground conditions.
- Safe procedures for loading, unloading, and transporting the machine.
- Conducting daily pre-use checks and defect reporting.
- General maintenance requirements to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Correct manoeuvring techniques, including reversing, tight turns, and stability control.
- Safe use of attachments and awareness of machine limitations.
- Practical operating exercises to build competence and confidence.
- Final theory and practical assessments to confirm operator ability.
