


This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely guide and direct vehicle movements in a variety of settings, including construction sites, warehouses, docks, shopping centres, schools, and other workplaces.
The training focuses on reducing the risks of vehicle–pedestrian collisions, property damage, and traffic management issues, in line with health & safety legislation and best practice.
It is suitable for anyone involved in directing vehicles, managing traffic flow, or working in environments where reversing, loading, or unloading activities occur.
COURSE CONTENT
Legal Duties & Responsibilities – understanding employer and employee obligations.
Role of the Banksman / Marshall – responsibilities, limits of authority, and communication.
Common Vehicle Hazards – blind spots, reversing risks, pedestrian interactions.
Risk Assessment & Safe Systems of Work – planning safe vehicle manoeuvres in different environments.
Hand Signals & Communication Methods – standardised and sector-specific signals.
Use of PPE & Visibility Aids – high-vis clothing, radios, and positioning for maximum safety.
Safe Reversing Procedures – guiding lorries, forklifts, delivery vans, and school buses.
Sector-Specific Scenarios – construction sites, warehouses, docks, retail car parks, and schools.
Emergency Procedures – stopping unsafe operations, incident response, and escalation.
Practical Demonstrations & Assessment – supervised vehicle marshalling exercises.
