


This 3-day course equips candidates with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver safe and effective Overhead (Gantry) Crane Operator Training. Participants will cover crane functions, safe lifting practices, load control, signalling methods, and relevant legislation, along with essential instructional and assessment techniques.
On completion, successful candidates will be able to plan and deliver training sessions, adapt to learner needs, and assess operator competence in both theory and practical settings.
COURSE CONTENT:
Day 1: Over Head Gantry Crane Operator Training – Modules include:
- Legislation in relation to Health & Safety
- Compliance of inspections
- Responsibilities of the operator and the employer
- Over Head Crane Categories
- Safe Operation of Over Head Cranes
- Identifying Risks and Hazards associated with Over Head Crane use including overloading & shock loading – Pre & Post Use Inspections of Over Head Cranes
- Lifting Equipment Safety
- Pre & Post Use Inspections of Lifting Equipment
- Maintenance
- Operator Theory and Practical Assessments
Day 2: Lifting Equipment Safety and Inspections –
- Legislation in relation to lifting equipment
- Responsibilities of the operator and the employer
- Compliance of 6 monthly inspections
- Determining the centre of gravity of the load
- Basic rigging practices
- Tension developed by sling angles
- Hitch selection and appliances
- Effect of sling angles on rigging and hardware
Day 3: Recap and Assessments – The Instructor / examiner will supervise and audit the theory and practical assessments which will be completed by each candidate.
