


Slinger/Signaller (Banksman) Training
The aim of this training is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to carry out the role of a Slinger/Signaller (Banksman) safely and effectively. The course covers regulatory requirements, safe lifting practices, and the correct use of recognised hand and radio signals when directing cranes and other lifting machinery.
Designed for experienced participants, this CSCS-accredited programme ensures delegates understand lifting plans, risk assessments, and best practice in line with health and safety legislation. On completion, learners will be competent and confident to perform the duties of a Slinger/Signaller in compliance with statutory requirements.
COURSE CONTENT
- Overview of current legislation, standards, and operator responsibilities in lifting operations.
- Pre-shift inspection of lifting gear, accessories, and work area to ensure safe conditions.
- Identification of common hazards associated with lifting operations and how to avoid them.
- Safe methods of attaching lifting gear to a variety of loads.
- Understanding balanced and unbalanced loads and their effect on stability and safety.
- Correct procedures for slinging and lifting a bale of concrete blocks.
- Safe slinging and movement of a bale of tubes, rods, or similar long loads.
- Correct attachment and safe use of tag ropes to guide and control suspended loads.
- Recognition and correct use of approved hand signals for crane and lifting operations.
- Practical training and assessment to confirm competence in all aspects of the role.
