VDU / DSE Assessor Training

Our VDU/DSE and Home Working Risk Assessor Training Course is the ideal course for HR personnel, managers, supervisors, manual handling instructors or other staff who are in the position to assess the risk of computer workstation interaction. The course gives learners the skills necessary to carry out VDU/DSE office and home working risk assessment in compliance with current regulations. The course is highly interactive and will use practical assessments.

The Irish Legislation states that the employer is required to undertake Visual Display Unit (VDU) (DSE) Assessments on all computer workstations where an employee will spend longer than 1 hour per day.

COURSE CONTENT:

The course covers a number of topics including:

  • Legislation & Standards – Irish & EU regulations, employer and employee responsibilities.

  • Role of the DSE Assessor – duties, scope, and boundaries of the role.

  • Principles of Ergonomics – posture, movement, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Workstation Set-Up – correct arrangement of desk, chair, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and accessories.

  • DSE in the Home Environment – adapting assessments for remote and hybrid working.

  • Risk Factors & Common Issues – eye strain, back pain, repetitive strain injury (RSI), fatigue.

  • Assessment Process – how to plan, conduct, and record an office or home workstation assessment.

  • Practical Assessment Skills – observation, measurement, checklists, and employee consultation.

  • Control Measures & Recommendations – adjustments, equipment selection, breaks, and exercises.

  • Reporting & Follow-Up – producing clear reports, action plans, and ensuring compliance.
